Hey there. I’m hesitant to write anything under this, because these pages rarely stick to the factual and mostly tend towards the ideal. The factual isn’t really all that interesting – my name’s Hin-Tai, pleased to see you here, I’m a second year university student – so I’ll skip to the ideal. These are the things that particularly influence my life and how I live, the things I look toward, which I hope tell you something about me, even if I don’t live up to them.
The hero I try to emulate: Jesus Christ. WWJD shouldn’t be a bracelet but a lifestyle. (And even then, since hate is akin to murder, and lust to adultery, What Would Jesus Think? would be more appropriate). As for the particular things about Jesus that convict me every day: he deeply cared for (and did something about) those parts of society no-one else gave a damn about; he was so focused on reaching out to people he became homeless too; he had time for absolutely everybody; he loved people for who they were – or rather, in spite of who they were; he knew his Bible inside out; he spent hours in prayer;… I would love to go on, but as John writes, ‘even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written [about Jesus]‘. In short, he both figuratively and literally gave his life to changing and saving lives forever. What better role model is there?
The quote I try to keep in mind: ‘In today’s society, you may be the only Christian your friends ever get to know. You may be the only Bible your friends ever read. You may be the only church your friends ever attend.’ I hope I act accordingly.
The picture I try to paint across my eyeballs:
I am Adam all too often.
The truth that should ground my life:
‘Q. What is your only comfort in life and death?
A. That I am not my own, but belong with body and soul, both in life and in death, to my faithful Saviour Jesus Christ.’ (From the Heidelberg Catechism)
